Spell Checking Functions for JavaScript

The real-time spell checking functions allow you to spell check words and receive suggestions in your own spellchecking applications with instant (inline) results.

They are easy to use and give fast, accurate results.

$Spelling.BinSpellCheck(input) Returns true of false depending on if the word is in the dictionary. 

var isInDict = $Spelling.BinSpellCheck('word') // true


$Spelling.SpellCheckSuggest(input) Returns and array of suggestions for an incorrectly spelled word: 

var arrSuggestions = $Spelling.SpellCheckSuggest("Worldd") //returns ['world']


$Spelling.BinSpellCheckFields(Fields) Checks one or many Fields (textareas and inputs) in your page for spelling and returns true or false.

This function is very useful for spelling validation when submitting forms. 

var FormSpellingValid = $Spelling.SpellCheckSuggest("textrea1,textarea2,textinput1") // true or false


$Spelling.DidYouMean(Query) Returns a spelling suggestion phrase for a search engine query. 

var Suggestion = $Spelling.DidYouMean(searchString) // "empty" is spelling is ok


There is also a $Spelling.ListDictionaries() function which returns an array of all installed dictionaries.

  • 'auto' automatically detects the best choice in the vast majority of cases.
